Old Vail is rooted in rich history. In 1961 OVMS was the only school in Vail-- the original building is still in use today. We are an A+ School of Excellence, our mascot is Henry the Hawk, and our colors are red and black.

To teach our students how to take ownership of their learning and achieve academic excellence. We believe it is critical that our students acquire a sense of personal and social responsibility within and beyond our community.

Our 80 staff members come from diverse experiences and backgrounds. Some of our staff members have been teaching at OVMS for over 25 years, some have taught internationally, and a few even attended OVMS as middle schoolers themselves. Our staff is dedicated to providing a positive, safe, and rigorous experience for all our students.

We are home to 850 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Our students participate in over 30 different extracurricular activities and take a variety of specialized classes. Our students love showing off their school pride; they can often be found dressed up in wacky costumes for spirit week or cheering on their classmates at one of our many sporting events.
